Immune Boosting Foods

There are many things we can do that can help boost our immune system, especially over the colder months. Looking from a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, the most natural way to boost our immune system is through food.

The goal is to encourage self-healing through boosting the immune system. TCM emphasizes a diet rich in diverse foods and colors through vegetables, broths and herbs. In addition to this, the temperature of what you consume matters! Having cold food and drinks is not the best for digestion, warm and room temperature are preferable.

As the weather changes, our bodies will have to defend themselves from external pathogens. We have compiled a list of some great immune boosting foods:

Ginger: This powerful food is loaded with antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea properties. Ginger can also improve digestion, and support the immune system.

Fermented Foods: These types of foods contain live and active cultures which populate in our digestive tract to help fight bad bacteria and improve digestion. Examples include kimchi, plain yogurt, sauerkraut, apple cider vinegar (with the mother) and miso.

Garlic:
Garlic is widely used for its antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also nutrient dense and can be used in a variety of cooking.
